My son was moved from one four-person table to another in class yesterday. My motherly wisdom tells me this is not just for fun. We were worried about a friend sitting at his last table-- they tend to get in trouble together-- so I am not surprised.
Are these 4-people tables conducive to learning? It seems like sitting at a desk by yourself would be a much easier way to learn without being distracted by others. Less fun? Maybe, but isn't that the point?
Do all classrooms have these group tables now? What's better, social interaction or isolation? Discuss.

Grace's classroom uses group tables as well, but her teacher seems to switch it up quite a bit. I think Grace is on her 5th seating arrangement since the beginning of the year, and she doesn't seem to mind one bit. It's given her a chance get to know all TWENTY-FOUR of her classmates better! It also provides for a boyfriend change-up every few weeks, which is helpful...But, seriously, I like the tables for this age. A lot of k'garten is social, and I think it helps to have different ability levels together. I think they help each other out a lot. But, I must say, the dynamics in Grace's class are really good to start with. I think we lucked out on personalities.
